Color and the Art of Communication


Michel Ségard will discuss the use of color in printed and electronic communication documents (such as brochures, presentations, and web sites). This application independent overview will be geared to the nondesigners who want a better understanding of how to manage color in their documents. The presentation will examine the reasons to use color in a presentation. Color terminology will be reviewed, as well as the codes and mechanics of color pickers that are found in various applications. In addition, the presentation will explore the psychology of colors and color combinations.

Michel Ségard has more than 30 years experience in communication design with emphasis on small print publications and experience in web site interface design. He was a pioneer in desktop publishing, developing and teaching the first for-credit course on the subject for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1986. Now retired, he was a proposal designer for one of the world’s largest professional services firm for 24 years. Michel also has extensive experience in the visual arts as a critic and curator, and has authored and designed numerous art exhibition catalogs.
